From what I can gather, long nails in codices often correlate with old characters, as well as sorcerers, wise, or powerful beings like deities. Though it may be just my own impression, that's kind of how I use it in my work.

Something about the retro style of manga makes me feel nostalgic even though I didn't grow up with manga in general. It's strange but not unwelcoming.

Maybe it's because manga was of a better style before, and didn't had the copy-pasted faces that we often see in anime today?
I really like how serious or beautiful the characters looked back then!
